Adam Cassady, a senior official at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), has been confirmed by the Senate to become the State Department's Ambassador-at-Large for Cybersecurity Policy.
According to Senator Marco Rubio, Cassady's nomination was confirmed on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, after undergoing a thorough review by the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
The nomination comes after the State Department announced its intention to appoint a new Ambassador-at-Large for Cybersecurity Policy in September 2022.
Cassady's appointment marks the second time a NTIA official has been confirmed as the Ambassador-at-Large for Cybersecurity Policy.
The Ambassador-at-Large for Cybersecurity Policy is responsible for coordinating the US government's efforts to address cybersecurity threats and promote online security.
Heinrich Vogel, the US Ambassador to Germany, had nominated Cassady for the position in October 2022.
Cassady's confirmation is seen as a key step forward for the State Department's cybersecurity efforts, with Senator Rubio stating that the new Ambassador will help to "strengthen our national security posture" and "enhance our ability to respond to emerging threats."
